Located in Dripping Springs, TX, Foster Village helps foster families, kinship families and reunited families during their time of crisis. It’s led by experience foster and child welfare advocates, and board members made up of community professionals. This wonderful team empowers families throughout their whole time fostering.
On Wednesday nights, I am lucky enough to volunteer at the Foster Village Resource Center.
The Foster Village Resource Center is a renovated home that families can go to and get basic needs for their foster child, such as toiletries, clothing for all ages, and toys. All clothes and toys are in new or like-new condition and generously donated by the local community. They also try to provide cribs, beds, car seats, strollers and other necessities that can be difficult to get on short notice.
On Wednesday nights, I pitch in wherever I can. Usually, you can find me sorting and organizing donated items or creating “Welcome Packs.” The “Welcome Packs” are filled with the basic necessities the child will need while in foster care. And on an as-needed basis, I am also part of their delivery team. The delivery team helps get “Welcome Packs” and other items to children and foster families. The first few hours and days of transitioning into foster care can be chaotic and stressful for the whole family, we strive to make at least part of their lives easier.
Foster Village hosts a “Foster Parent’s Night Out” each quarter. This event allows foster parents to have a well-deserved break for a couple hours. As a volunteer, I help serve dinner and oversee craft time or indoor/outdoor activities.
Foster Village is an amazing organization that impacts so many lives, it’s rewarding to be apart of it. I always look forward to Wednesday nights and helping out this great team!
